Possible bad EGR Valve???
I have an 87 Iroc with a 305 TPI. It died on me afew weeks ago. List of parts i put in: MSD pro billet dist., MSD blaster 2 coil, MSD 8.5 mm wires and NGK V-power plugs ( 2nd set already). So i finally got my spark back but now she runs like ****. I just changed the plugs today and found that 1,3,5,7 were a nice golden brown and 2,4,6,8 were black and carboned up. I noticed that even bank is running much hotter then odd bank. Still the same issues, runs like it has a miss, shakes, major lack of power and iv burnt a 1/4 tank of gas today from about 45 mins of idiling. I found a vacuum leak which i repaired which did nothing. now could this be my EGR? i just dont understand why one bank of plugs look good and the other poor. i had codes 12,33,34,42 register today. 12 is always there and is not a problem code. 33,34 are MAF codes, because i unplugged MAF to test it today and 42 has to do with ignition system failure, which i belive has to do with my stock ignition system crapping out. Timing is set to 6 degrees BTDC with DST wire unplugged. so i dunno any help would be awesome.

Re: Possible bad EGR Valve???
I had a very similar scenario in my 88 formula...I gave it a tune up and after that it was running like absolute crap..really rough at idle, studdered and stalled when i would pull out at a stop, plugs were soaked in gas and I got horrible gas mileage (half a talk in 45 minutes). So last week I replaced the egr valve and that fixed it she purrs like a kitten again. As long as your sure there is no other vaccum leaks or problems with your ignition system ide put my money on your egr valve being the trick to fix it.

Re: Possible bad EGR Valve???
awesome. appreciate it. im sure i got the vac. leaks and i just dont know what else it could be. just the fact that all 4 plugs in one bank were mint and the other 4 in the other bank were terrible really bugs me. its like the exhaust is getting re circulated through that side. if it was running rich on that side, say from injectors, that side in all technicality should be running cooler. instead its running much hotter. it never through any EGR trouble codes but whos to say it actually will 100 percent of the time. but all that aside, how does a guy even go about changing it, im assuming you have to pull the plenums to get beneath to the EGR? thanks again man.

Yea im assuming since you said plenum you have a Tpi. Its actually not that bad I did it last weekend took about 4-5 hours. You have to basically remove the center section plenum piece and everything that is attached to it. The side parts of intake can stay bolted to the manifold. First, unhook everything going to the plenum..throttle body/air intake, vaccum lines, accelterator pedal lines, power brake booster and electrical connectors. Then, take the side bolts out of the plenum (4 on each side) once this is done lift the center section of the plenum out. Once you have it out the Egr valve is right there in the center of the manifold unhook everything from the old Egr valve and then clean the surface of the manifold then (with new gasket) install new egr valve. Now do the reverse of everything and you should be good to go.
P.S. I got my egr valve from advance auto parts it was 75.00 ( at pep boys and other places it was 90 or up so advance is the way to go)
