need advice quickly...will this work?

Ok I found this motor for sale and I need to know if it will work with the stock ecm in my 91 rs tbi 305....quote "305 crate engine for sale. It has a mild cam 272 it also has racing rocker arms. Comes with heads, intake, water pump, vale covers."...I spoke the the guy selling it..claims it only has 1-2 hundred miles on it..states it is a roller cam motor..I need to find out quick so I dont miss my chance on picking it up..states it has a carb intake on it..will the stock tbi intake work..thanks in advance

Yes, it can work. How well, who knows. The biggest thing would be to find out what year heads are on it. This will dictate wether your current intake will fit on the new motor.

Personally I would be leary of any used, rebuilt motor. Ecspecially one that doesnt say what cam is in it and says racing anything. If you look through the engine section on here, a lot of the problems people have with their motors start with "I just bought this motor and the guy I bought it from didnt know exactly what was in it". Just my

Re: need advice quickly...will this work?

thanks for the input built91z28..I am just really at a loss..I think you may have also answered one of my other posts..if you dont mind I'm going to elaborate..I have a 91 rs..305 tbi..with just under 100k on it..I have had the car since 92..it sat undriven for around 8 years while I was living in ny( I never drove it on the road there cause of the salt issues and I didn't want any rust)but was started at least weekly...Finally got the car back on the road after trailering it back to texas with me..ran great..still pretty strong for the 305 tbi..the one day it started to smoke..just a little after i left a red light but never on start up and not a whole lot..then I went to change the plugs..all plugs looked really good..put new ones in and man I've never seen so much smoke..it looks white possibly blue cant really tell..but i can see no oil in the coolant or vice versa..and I wasnt losing any coolant or oil..so I bought some stop smoke stuff just to see if I could get it back to my house..after adding it too the oil it got even worse..so thats where I am at now..I found the 305 in the first post on craigs list and it seems like a really good deal..but 1 more question..could the hole in the head that lets oil pass thru (Not sure what its called but I've seen it mentioned here before) being clogged cause that much smoke? And where are the holes located..my next thing is to pull the valve covers and check.

Re: need advice quickly...will this work?

ok update...I asked the guy for the casting numbers for the heads and it looks like its either 14014415 0r 14014416..now from what I can tell this is an 80-85 head, so does that mean my 91 tbi intake wont work..it has a carb intake on it now..could i swap to a carb and still use ecm? or would it be better to buy an intake that would fit it?
Also it does have roller rockers and cam. engine block number is 460776..hope anyone can point me in the right direction..thanks in advance

if it has pre 86 heads, your 91 intake wont bolt to it. The angles of the middle bolts are different. If you run a carb, there is no reason for the computer. You would also have to get a different distributor as the computer would no longer advance the timing.
