Engine: 350
Transmission: 700r4
1987 camaro runing hot when driveing
hello every one the car run fine in the drive way when i take it on the road it make a knocking sound and runs hot its sounds like the timing is off when i re start it again i set to to 8 then to 10 still does it the motor is a rebuild 350 any help will be nice thank you

What do you consider the car to be running hot? What temperature are you seeing?
Normal operating temp for these engines are in the 210-220 degrees.

Carb, tpi, aftermarket fuel injection, tbi? Specs on the motor, aluminum heads, stock iron? Have you pulled plugs to see if its running lean? Whats your total timing and are you running vacuum advance?

the motor was rebuild back in 1997 the car sat for 12 yrs the motor did not want to turn over i filled it up with disel fuil let it sat for two week then dran it
fill it with oil then it crank right over had to set the timeing to get it to run ran
fine go up to 220 then back down to 190 its tpi e block i think thats aftermark
the motor has the f pistons in it i can't remember what cam is in it i pulled the plugs out they where black runing lean i put new ones in a/c i set the timeing to
8 ran fine in the driveway for hours as soon i went on the road i hear a knocking
sound and the temp went to 260 i turn it off and had it tow back i reset the timeing to 10 did the same thing then i set to 12 temp went up to 240 still hot for the motor just can't figure this out runs fine when park in the driveway
