On the 89 chevy 305 was it possible to upgrade your rocker arms and the ratio?

Re: rocker arms

yes , the most popular i feel are the 1.6 roller tips . comp cams 1416-16 are a good choice . i have those myself . a good time to change valve seals . but , don't expect a seat of pants difference in performance . good luck .

Re: rocker arms

Well for my 89 the intake is intake .234 exhaust .257 lift for the tbi motor.

So my question is with flat top pistons and the 9.3:1 compression ratio what is the max lift you can run on these engines?

Re: rocker arms

On stock engines, it's the valve guide clearance that limits things, not the piston-to-valve clearance. You can get around .475" or so, depending on tolerances, before the retainer smacks into the valve seal.

Re: rocker arms

Oh ok thanks,

I was born in the 80s so I was wondering why they didnt use a better cam in the camaro tbi or was it to save money and just drop in the truck version on an rs.

Re: rocker arms

If that where the only thing then I could run a 1.8 rocker ratio and my engine isnt that old so valve guides wont be an issue.

Because my exhaust lift would only be .462 so what do you mean by valve guide clearence?
