EST question

I have a small light tan wire right near my coil. When I disconnected it , my tach stopped working. There is also a darker tan wire with a black stripe near my a/c stuff/black box . Which one is the EST wire? I disconnected the one near the coil last time and reset my timing. WTF?

Re: EST question

the one near your ac box stuff which is darker tan with black wire should be EST wire. thats used to set base timing.

The other wire is the tach signal wire and hence why it stopped working when unplugged

Re: EST question

So, then what did I set my timing too then? I definately moved the distributor and it runs fine.

Re: EST question

You're going to have to get a timing light and check the balancer to see where you set your base timing. From there the computer takes over the timing...

Re: EST question

I know that. I thought at the time i set it to 6 degrees. Then i reconnected that "wrong" wire". LOL. So, it runs better ,but where do you think i actually set it to?

Re: EST question

Given the year, total timing at idle is usually around 20 deg. 6 is usually the base. With 6 deg total timing WITHOUT the EST disconnected, then actual base now is probably 14 deg less than 6

I'd reset it. I wouldnt expect it to run better with that little timing
