Losing acceleration and power

I have a 1987 Chevy Camaro with a 350 that I am fixing up, the car sat undrivin for a little over 3 yrs I believe. I am having a problem with losing power while i am driving. the engine will cut out and bogg down when i stepped on the throttle, the car will idle just fine but once i get on the throttle it wil cut out. i thought it was the fuel system. I have replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter *I have taken apart and cleaned carburetorbut still didnt work. I ran straight pipe, there is still pipe from the A.I.R. system that is not connected from the catalytic converter being removed. I also have a wiring harness located next to drive shaft with male end but cannot find where it plugs into. i am idleing at 1000, and the needle goes almost all the way around back to 0 when i drive. Could this problem be from the injectors putting to much fuel in the clyinders and the computer trying to fix it? Or do i need a new speed sensor and idle control motor? Please help, any information you can provide will be so greatly appreciates. I am just at a complete loss. **

Re: Losing acceleration and power

If the car sat for 3 years, you may have dirt and debris in your injectors, also
check the resistance of each injector...readings should not
be less than 10-11 ohm.

Hey Mike, first thing first...

1. Is an injected or carborated motor? You say you "I have taken apart and cleaned carburetor but still didnt work." then later talk about injectors. Which is it?

2. I the car tuned up? Cap, rotor, wires, plugs, all in good condition?

3. how's your fuel filter?

4. did you check your fuel pressure at the rails

There's a lot of things you need to do before determining what the problem is.

Start with the basics, make sure everything is set, then you can begin to isolate the problem.

Re: Losing acceleration and power

it has a carb, the lid is what says its fuel injected! the fuel pump, and filter are brand new. wen i first start it without puttin it in gear, and rev it up it revs fine to about 5 or 6k and then theres no circulation flow

Re: Losing acceleration and power

wen i first got it to fire up the only problem that would occur is evry 5to8 miles i would hav to put it in nuetral and killit for a few secs start it and it would run fine for the next 5or8 miles. finaly a couple weeks ago its been seriously keepin me clusterf***ed all around. ive done all i can think of . also my coolin system has been holdin pressure. i took out the thermostat, water pump ,radiator are circulating. this is my dream car. i had a honda tuner for three n a half years and at that was the first car i owned i worked on it myself. that was only a few years ago, i also had a book on it! my camros strictly been this site and hands on no book. i kno this probably sounds like my life next on oprah or some ****. i figure if i lay it all out there i might finaly accomplish this gotdam camaros true performance. id realy appreciate the advice and help. sory for the auto biography of an amatuer mechanic whos probably overlookin somethin thats starin me rite in the face. thanx for takin the tiime to read this story! i await n e ones replies.
