Knock Sensor possibly picking up knock from from outside motor?

I was wondering,

My car has been throwing code 43 for the past 2 months or so. I don't know why. It won't come in initially, usually takes 3-5 minute for the code to show up. Anyway, I put a 6qt oil pan on the car and had to have the Y-pipe modded to fit around the front of it between that and the crossmember. I'ts a really tight fit and I can sometimes hear the exhaust rattling down there. Could the rattle of the exhaust on the oil pan or cross member cause a false reading on the knock sensor?

Or is the more likely culprit the knock sensor? I replaced the engine 2000 miles ago and this is the first time this code has been thrown as I had the exhaust work done with the engine swap...so I wouldn't think it to be the cause, but since the wiring all looks good, I'm really at a loss other than replacing the knock sensor.

I hightly doubt it would be picking up a knock from outside the motor though I suppose its possible even if it is extremely unlikely. I think more likely you have an issue like the wire from the knock sensor is routed too closely to a plug wire picking up noise that is falsely interpreted as a knock, broken wire, bad connection, or bad knock sensor ect.

well, never thought about a plug wire causing interference. like the rest of the wire harness, its routed right over the plug wires on the passenger valve cover.

Well if thats the case you may want to move that harness away from the plug wires. The induced noise from plug wires can cause some odd behavior in many circuits beyond the knock sensor so even if thats not the cause its still a good idea.
