Power steering question

I just rebuilt my motor and all that's left before start up is the power steering pump and alternator...my power steering pump sucked before I ripped it apart I talked to a buddy he ran his iroc with out the power steering I was wondering how hard the steering will be and if this will damage any other parts if I just remove the pump all together? If anyone has done this how did you go about removing the pump just plug the lines or what?

Re: Power steering question

connect to 2 lines on the steering gear with a hose. i run it this way on my race car. if you plug the lines the steering may be more stiff. if you leave them disconnected fluid will squirt everywhere.

Re: Power steering question

Power steering pumps are cheap, why not just replace it - with resevoir they are only $56 at Autozone.

Re: Power steering question

I'm on a very limited budget and unemployed so I need to get this baby running and find a job before winter gets here and ill probably throw a new pump in over the winter... besides that I like my baby a little too much to throw autozone junk in her.... everytime something goes out I upgrade.and to skirkland do u mean just link the the two hoses so its a loop rather than just plugging it right at the threads

Re: Power steering question

I usually prefer better parts as well, but a p/s pump is a p/s pump - Never heard of any being any better than another.
