how many rpm
Without destroying my engine, can anyone tell me how many RPM you can turn safely. I have been shifting at just under 6k from first to second and want to know if I can push it farther. I also would like to know if my new 4:10 gears will change how many RPM's I can turn. Thanks

Considering your engine isn't stock, there's no way to say without knowing how it was built and with what parts.
Your rear end gearing won't change the redline of the engine.

Re: how many rpm
Just about all of them, in one way or another. There's two things to consider, the first is how fast will the parts spin safely, and the second is how fast will they spin effectively. There's no point going to 6000 if your heads and cam are done making power by 4500.
All assuming your tach is accurate, as well.

Re: how many rpm
thank you for your input. I bought this car as a "toy" and was just trying to figure out how hard I can push it w/o destroying it. I haven't had a hotrod since 1971 and am real green as a wannabe mechanic. I have always tinkered but usually didn't know what I was doing. My perfect run would be 1/16 mile burning rubber all the way...lol

Re: how many rpm
The zero balance point of the rotating assembly has alot to do with rev limit. This balance point was determined by the machinist who balanced the assy. Also key is the harmonic balancer used. Nodular crank or steel is another key issue.
