Vacuum Essentials?

Which vac lines do you absolutely need to make the car run right? as of now almost all of my lines a plugged off... I'd like to have the egr working right as it can help MPG's but are there any others that are abolutely nessecary to a proper running engine? The car is a 1986 Trans am, 305 with the 4 barrel Rochester CCQjet...

Re: Vacuum Essentials?

With a CC Quadrajet, the only two that are totally essential are the one for the brakes and the one for the PCV valve. There isn't one for the distributor. The rest are for emmitions components or the HVAC controls in the dash. They aren't necessary, but if all that stuff is working fine, then no reason to remove them. Emmitions controls aren't robbing you of any power.

Re: Vacuum Essentials?

I'd rather it all be in original order but I only paid 500 bucks for it so quite a bit is not there/right... Part of me thinks that it was injected at one point because of all the unplugged connections haha Oh and I have a vac line running to the distributor...

Re: Vacuum Essentials?

The CC Qjet also used a matching CC distributor, which had its advance electronically controlled based on input from the carb. It didn't have a vacuum advance. You may have a bunch of mismatched parts in there. You need to have both the CC Qjet and CC distributor for either to work correctly.

Re: Vacuum Essentials?

Very interesting... Its a vacuum line for sure. How would i tell if its a cc distributor? Its got three connectors on the top of the cap: tach, IGN, and a larger flat connector...

Re: Vacuum Essentials?

The one on the left is the 'large cap' CC distributor, which is what the '83-86 cars used. If it doesn't look like that, with the same wiring, its not a CC distributor.
