knock sensor question
Will the knock sensor detect a knock from say a main bearing or rod bearing or will it only detect detonation from pre ignition ? Just curious.

I've heard it can pick up other noises, but I can't say from first-hand experience that it will.

Re: knock sensor question
YES! One way to test that theory is to take a small hammer and tap on the block or oil pan rail near the sensor. DO NOT HIT THE SENSOR. The timing will retard and the engine will slow down slightly! The knock sensor is a microphone that "listens" for the telltale sounds created by detonation (spark knock). The knock sensor will also pick up noisy gear drives, loose pistons, wrist pins, rod knocks, etc. That is why almost all gear drives have the disclaimer "not for use on computer controlled vehicles with knock sensors"!
