84Z computer won't kick on for self-diagnostic and loss of 6MPG
Hey yall.
Well, for the past 2 years, Ive been getting 11.75 city, 14 highway, when before that (after an MSD system) I was getting 16 city, 23 highway.
I've seen a dramatic loss in mpg and am stumped as to what it could be. Someone said it could be an O2 sensor even though it's carbeurated.
So I just tried to run the engine codes using they key, and the check engine light will not blink on and off. It stays on all the time when I'm driving too.
Does this indicate that I might have a faulty computer? I would think it might.
Any help would be great, thanks.

Could be a bad computer, but much more likely a wiring
problem such as no power to the computer-need to
check the power inputs at the ECMs electrical plugs...
Can you hear the mixture control solenoid working in
the carb(ticking sound)-as i understand,if there is no
power to the ECM,the primary metering rods stay in
the up or rich position. Also the timing will remain at
base setting with no advance

Something may still be bad with the computer because like I said when I go to run the codes, and you can always hear the computer kick on, with mine you cant. It doesn't kick on and the check engine doesn't flash, which might make you think the computer is bad. Sheeeeesh.
