91 Camaro 3.1 spark problem
91 Camaro 3.1 spark problem
She's only hitting on 3 cylinders.
Number 1 is dead, 3 is good, i think 5 is dead, and 2 cylinders on the driver's side are firing.
needless to say, the cars runs really rough and then stalls out.
i searched the forum for a while and discovered that the reluctor part in the distributor has a laminated magnet of sorts and cracks, which causes spark scatter and erratic timing.
No problem, I went the the auto parts store and got a cardone reman distributor.
popped it in and no difference. i know cardone is not the greatest brand, but it came with a lifetime guarantee, etc..
Edit** ok, my timing light was bad. i'm getting spark on all 6 cylinders but still will not start.
i played with the timing, made very little difference. it will try to catch but won't run.
spraying starting fluid in the intake makes no difference.
compression is 170-180psi.
anybody?

Spark Is Dark
If the ignition is consistent on which ones won’t fire check for bad plug wires.
Get a spark tester so you can test it right out of the distributor cap to see where the problem is, at the cap or at the plug wire ends.

edit- damn fuel injectors..
2 were bad, they checked out at 2 ohms and 8 ohms.
i unplugged those 2 and she fired up on 4 cylinders.
apparently the partially shorted injectors take out the whole bank so no fuel flows.
time to find the fuel injector thread to source replacements...
