main bearings .010 undersize
I have been working on an engine that I bought ( chevy 350 ) and found that the main bearing say .010 since the original owner had it ground .010. My question is would the rods have been ground .010 as well. I think the rods are ground but not sure. The rods have obvious scratches where the bearing go like how an engine bore looks, and the rod bearings say michigan 77 and has a stam saying 010. Will standard bearing s work in this engine, Someone told me that running standard bearings will cause the bearings to spin and the crank and rods won't move.

Generally, if a crank needed the mains ground, the rods were just as worn if not more so. So generally, yes if the mains are .010" under the rods are too, maybe more.
Since the rod bearings say "010" it's a pretty safe bet the crank journals are .010" under as well.
Only way to be sure however, is to whup out your trusty micrometer and measure.
No std bearings will not work on a .010" under crank. There will be about 10 times too much oil clearance, and the motor will have NO oil pressure whatsoever, and it will blow up probably within the first 10 minutes of operation. No serious consequences though, just a wiped-out crank and it'll need a new set of bearings and all the metal shavings rodded out of every oil passage.

It's possible the crank pins were also ground, but by no means certain.
Material has been ground off the crank, so standard bearings aren't too small, they're too big. They won't seize, they'll rattle around and you'll have no oil pressure.

When rods are refurbish they just hone them enough to true the circle with the rod caps. To be sure like the other post said you will need a micrometer. It is normal to have the hone marks on the rod cap ends.
