Engine squeal under heavy accel
When I get on it (in any gear) my car emits a loud squeal from under the hood somewhere. It starts to become audible about 3000 RPM and gets louder the longer I keep my foot in it and climb through the RPM range. I've ruled out the transmission and it definitely seems to be coming from the front. The interesting thing is that the sound does not increase or decrease in pitch as the RPMs change. It just gets louder. It sounds like a dry rusty old bearing or something. If I'm at a stop and rev it to redline I do not hear the sound at all, only happens under load so this would seem to rule out the belt or any accessory. Any ideas?

Re: Engine squeal under heavy accel
Two thoughts. First, if you have a broken motor mount, it will raise the engine up and you can hit an alternator on the hood which is spinning. Next thought, something wrapped around the driveshaft? There is a torsion bar from the rear axle to the transmission. If the bolts have backed out of the bracket and the bar is free, it can screech on the drive shaft.

it still sounds like a belt. does it stop as soon as you let off? i would check the belts by pushing down on all of them and check the play amount. If the belts look fine then check for oil on them. Get some kind of cleaner and wipe down the belts. I had a older truck that the belts would do that and it turned out to just be a build up of oil and dirt.

Re: Engine squeal under heavy accel
might be from a smog control valve or something?
(presuming that's all still in place
)
try running it for a short time with the belt off to see
if the squeal goes away..
