cylinder heads

i have 2.8l v6 and i have 2 bolts broke off in each head...i plan on going to the junkyard tomorrow to look for new ones, because i think that would cheaper then paying to get these bolts ripped out.

my question is; will any heads from a v6 camaro or firebird work? or do i somehow have to find specific ones? im not quite sure, and i couldnt find anything in a search. also, is there anything i should stay away from??

any help will be appreciated.

Re: cylinder heads

As long as you find another 2.8 that is the same year, it should be a direct swap.

Re: cylinder heads

I'd at least call a machine shop in your area and see what they'd charge to remove the broken bolts. You might be surprised

Re: cylinder heads

they are the ones in the back next to the firewall on both driver and passenger side, so they want to completely remove the heads then remove the bolts. they said it should take around 7 hours, probably at anything from 50-100 dollars an hour.

or i could go to the junkyard next to me, would be 40 dollers for heads.

i cant afford the first..was just checking to see if i need to avoid anything at the junkyard. thanks for the replies.

Re: cylinder heads

For what it's worth, the 2.8 and 3.1 are essentially the same block, the 3.1 just has a longer stroke crank. (I believe, I might remember wrong). Heads should be the same

I'd ask this on the V6 forum, there are a few guys on there that really know their stuff
