Converting Press in to screw in studs HELP!
Alright, so I'm finally getting back to the never ending project that is my Camaro and found that when I went to reassemble the heads I forgot somthing. Long story short, is I took the press in studs out of the stock L98 heads and tapped them to accept my new ARP screw in studs. after putting everything back together though it seems this throws my stud hight off and now i need to take it back apart and have the machine shop shave the stock bosses down some. Problem lies that i cant seem to find any information on measurements to what they need to be taken down to. I know there are plenty of people on here that have converted from the crappy press in studs to the ARP's so how did you guys do it?

What do you mean by throws the height off?

The bosses need to be cut down somewhere around 3/8"; but since their current height is so imprecise, that's not the measurement to use.
The correct way to express it is that they should be some distance above the deck, but I can't recall what that exact number ideally is. However it's not at all critical, as long as they're all reasonably close to the same. Just tell your machine shop what you want them to do and they'll know how tall to knock them down to. If they don't, you don't want them working on your heads anyway, find one that does know. Any actual racing shop will know.
