Belching smoke

Guys, 1988 350TPI, belches smoke when she starts (warm) and then only smokes a little. I'm guessing she's burning oil due to valve guides or seals. But why the massive amount of smoke at warm start?

Thanks,

Re: Belching smoke

Maybe your oil is hotter and thinner and running down the guides more. Try some after market oil seal conditioner and or thicker oil. This won't cure the problem, but might lessen it.

Re: Belching smoke

if it's a blue color, it's no doubt oil from bad valve guides/seals.

Re: Belching smoke

Try synthetic oil - smoking disappears.

If your guides or seals are bad, it won't go away. It might lessen it to almost not noticeable, but it won't go away. Worn guides are worn, cracked dry seal are cracked, the only fix is to remove the heads and rebuild them.
