I am swapping my 305tbi for a 350tbi and would like to swap cams while the engine is out. I don't plan on having the vehicle down for a long enough time to tune it and was hoping to be able to just make some fuel pressure and base timing changes to compensate for the cam. Is this possible or do I absolutely need a new tune? I know I will not realize 100% of the gains from the cam without a tune but I do pplan on doing one down the road when I swap heads.

 

What cam is in the 350 now?

I ran an L98 long block with a stock Corvette cam and a TBI system for a couple years; it worked great. Started up everyday, burned the tires down when I needed it to, and the fuel pressure, computer tune and injectors were stock TBI. Just remember, the throttle body unit itself is the same one that is used from the 4.3 up to the 5.7 of that generation. The only bigger one they made was for the 454, and you don't need anything that big unless you want to do alot of tuning for daily driving.

 

Does your "Camaro" 350 have a roller or flat-tappet cam is the first Q that needs answered.

 

It's actually a 91 chevy truck I'm looking to swap out the tired 305 for a 350 out of a 95 chevy truck. The 95 350 has the stock cam. Would I see a difference with a "stock corvette cam"?

 

For my 2 cents worth, I put a Comp Cams XR264HR cam in my L98. I am running the stock computer and haven't experienced any issues of drive-ability at all. Nice torque gain too.

 

That's what I thought...you were given four good cams to choose from on the FSC forum, now you also have a comp cam suggestion to choose from.

Any and all will require tuning, running acceptably and running right are two very different things.

 

As I said on FSC, I am really only looking for it to run acceptably right now. When I get time and money I will tune it. Also, I wasn't given any choices for cams on FSC of ther than stock. That's why I came here.

Considering I never posted on that thread, I guess you're the one that's blind. I know you referenced it but on there you say you can install one of those cams with no problem and on mine you say a tune is necessary for everything. Are you that much of a tard you don't realize what you wrote? I'm done with this crap. Figuring things out for myself will be easier than this.

NO I will not just give you the answer that you WANT to hear.
Your in a "GIMMIE" zone that will not get you far.

The computer loving a cam only means the cam is not outside the ECM's ability to be tuned for it. Ppl changing cams & not re-tuning for them are blissfully ignorant of their potential.

As always tuning is the FIRST step in developing optimum output from a computer controlled engine, whether you like it or not, and especially important once you begin to modify the engine.
