That often means your timing needs to be advanced more. "Most carb problems are usually ignition problems"

I did a lot of searching on here to see what the most commonly agreed settings are for vortecs. I'm going to assume you switched to a vacuum advance like you're supposed to when you got rid of the computer carb. With your vac disconnected you want about 32 degrees all in by somewhere between 2800 and 3500rpm (opinions on the rpm varied a lot between people). Vortecs need less than the usual 34 to 36. You'll need a set of different springs to adjust how soon your advance comes in.
Your idle would be about 12 degrees ideally, but theres not much you can do to change that unless you find a way to adjust the limit of your mechanical advance. Having that 32 around 3000 is more important, just deal with whatever your idle advance is.

With the vacuum hooked up, you want to limit that so it'll only give you another 10 or 12 degrees. In stock form mine was giving me like 25. It was knocking like crazy. Look at the last picture on this page http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c3/joe..._Recurve.shtml see that piece of blue metal held in place by the vac canister mounting screw. I made something like that out of sheet metal, not as fancy but works fine.

This will only put you at a good starting point. From there you adjust different things listening for knocking under all sorts of conditions and adjust things accordingly.

Sneezes through the carb when he stomps on the gas. It wasn't that hard to figure out, but I do admit I checked the guys location thinking maybe he was from a non-english-speaking country.

I figured it out after reading it twice. I just think that if your old enough to own a car you should be able to write a decent sentence and use semi good spelling. On a side note. I see your from the Rochester area. Dont know if you know but there's a nice local racing site around.
