Questions before purchasing a 86' v6 camaro
Questions before purchasing a 86' v6 camaro
I'm looking at purchasing an 86' v6 camaro. I'm looking for tips that I should be looking out for, before buying it. I just test drove it, and the 5 speed was smooth, the engine seems a bit less powerful than I was expecting, but this is a v6. I'm coming from a small chevy s10 which obviously is like night and day.
Can anyone help me out with what speed I should roughly be able to hit 4th in? Coming from an s10 I'm assuming it's wildly different.
I noticed that the gas pedal seemed extremely stiff at the top end, is this normal, or should I be looking at the throttle body cable, or possibly a build up in the throttle body?
Lastly are there any things in particular I should be looking at with the engine or transmission that 86's are known for?
Sorry for the bombardment of questions, I just don't want to get stuck with a lemon.
Thanks so much for your time.

Re: Questions before purchasing a 86' v6 camaro
from everything ive been told the V6 engines had main issues when the get higher mileage. If you want to find out more about the car lift the armrest in the center and get the codes off the tag their is a free RPO decoder on this site and it will give you a ton of information. If the car tracks straight and the price is right and their is no major rust problems Id say buy it if you want it.

Unless you have a really good reason to buy it, the V6 is a turd and will hold little to no value, not to mention is pathetically slow. If you want at least some power and a more desirable 3rd gen, get a 305 TPI 5-speed or 350 TPI
