Cam choice and worn out cam
Cam choice and worn out cam
Ok so after we rebuilt my 305 in my 86 it had a miss and popping in it. We changed plugs, wires, cap, coil, distributors,3 carbs, and it still runs the same. So we took the intake off and found one of the lifters had a wear pattern all the way across and the others just had the little circles on the bottom so im gonna say i tightend the lifters to tight and owre out the cam. Now my question is for a DD would the xe268 be good or would you guys recommend somthing else while its apart. Thanks

The XE268 is a good street cam, if your heads can take the lift.
You're doing a complete rebuild to clean the metal debris out, right?

We all ready rebuilt the engine and put it back. Thats how we ended up wearing the cam out. Adjusted the valves to tight when we put the engine back together. And i've got the valve springs for the cam i just haven't installed them yet. It wno't hurt to run the engine with the old valve springs for a little while until I get to change them as long as i take it easy on it will it ? Its got 416s on it now i think.

It doesn't matter if the engine was rebuilt before you wiped out the cam or not. It's trash now, and it needs to come back apart.
