Need to replace entire tank, pump, etc... What EXACTLY will I need?
My 1991 Formula has a bad tank - The previous owner cut the "lazy" fuel pump access into the rear floor of the car and removed the pump and sender. The
tank is badly corroded inside.
Since the car didn't come with a sender or fuel pump, I know I'll need at least those and the new tank.
I'm looking at:
SPECTRA PREMIUM Part # GM2721B
w/ Filler Neck; Lock Ring Kit Included
BOSCH Part # 69218 Electric Fuel Pump Kit
SPECTRA PREMIUM Part # FG20A Includes Fuel Sender, Float and Strainer
w/ Harness Code: FPH, FPJ
A couple questions;
First, are these ALL the parts I will need to swap everything? How about straps? I've never swapped a tank before so I don't know if its common for them to have to be replaced.
I realize how potentially tough the job will be, but I want to make sure I'd got all the parts before I get started as I can't have the car taking up the shop space for more than a day or so.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated - If there are better parts out there that would be better to use, please let me know....

2 tall jack stands to hold up the body and 2 smaller jack stands to support the axle while it hangs because if you let the axle hang too low, you'll snap the brake lines in half. you'll need help to remove the tank and to install the tank. your buddy will be a great help when you try to tighten down the 2 metal straps that hold the tank, guide you while you try to move the tank into position while he visually see's the neck through the gas tank door (very tough. you'll need a long screw driver to stick into the filler hole so that the neck wont move out of position while your friend struggles under the tank). As for tools, youll need box end wrenches or lines wrenchs, a large floor jack to lift the rear end about 2-3 feet off the ground (chock the front wheels), and most importantly,,,, patients. it took me about 4 hours to perform something rather easy. Depending on the style or parts of the New Fuel Pump, you may need to solder the ground wire to the sending unit. Visually inspect the sending unit when you pull it out. Match the wires accordingly. Take a pictur eif you have the means. Beleive me, it'll save you a headache if you forget what wire goes to what. Good luck buddy
P.S. drink plenty of water and eat 2 bananas before you begin to remove the tank. The water and potassium in the bananas will prevent your arms from cramping. Make sure your tank is close to empty so that it wont be too heavy too.

Yes, that is everything you'll need. You'll only need new straps if your current straps are rusted or you end up cutting them to get the old tank off.

It looks like the P/O (who cut an access hole in the back area to remove the old sending unit) took a pipe cutter to cut the hard lines. Do I just need some fuel line and some clamps to attach the new stuff or is there more to it?

Its been a year since I did mine but I think one of the lines had a threaded fitting. The other three were just fuel line slid over the tube with a clamp.

Thanks. My dad graciously ordered the parts for me to get to work on this 91 Formula.

First, there is nothing "lazy" about cutting an access hatch. Frankly, GM screwed the pooch by not doing what countless other manufacturers do. Some folks believe it to be some type of badge of honor to drop the tank to replace the fuel pump. In any event, your tank is bad and you asked about can you just use a hose and clamp on the line. If you are carb'd or TBI then you'd be OK. If you are TPI or other high pressure fuel pumps then you really should flare the pipe and connect in that fashion.
good luck
good luck
The car is an L98 Formula, so I've gotta flare the lines?

I got the fuel pump in the mail today - Its a Bosch unit - Since I didn't take the old pump/sending unit out, Does anyone have pics showing how all of this stuff is supposed to be assembled?
