California Emissions
California Emissions
Hi All, My 89 Iroc is having some issues. I believe it has California emissions on it, and it has an aftermarket chip in it. Im not sure if the chip is for California emissions. What is the easiest way to tell if the car does indeed have California emissions? and what would happen if there was a non emission chip in a emissions car?

Re: California Emissions
No such thing as a California Emission Chip. Emissions may not have anything to do with your problem. What is the problem?
Re: California Emissions
well autozone sells two different chips one with emissions one with out. This is the problem..... https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...arts-then.html

Re: California Emissions
Without reading the link doubt its the chip. Cal emissions was pretty much a sticker the smog equitment on them was the same far as I know. Could be wrong.
Nacho cheese or Cool Ranch?
well autozone sells two different chips

Re: California Emissions
There are 49-state/federal and California proms. See https://www.thirdgen.org/camaro-tpi-...cation-numbers 89 isnt real clear if they were still making two different ones on 350 cars (near as I can tell from having checked a couple they're all the same), but if you have the "wrong" one its not going to matter. They all have the same number of devices on the car, if anything is different between the two it would be changes to the fuel or timing tables and nothing to worry about.
Replacing the ignition switch may not have cured the problem, if its related to the VATS. There are some wires in there where the ignition lock cylinder is that get damaged that can cause a no start that would not be replaced if you replace the switch. I would look there first and forget about the prom. The chances of the prom causing that are about nil.
