starting issues

well ill start by saying i dont know alot about mechanics but im learning, i guess you can say im starting out. i try to learn from the haynes manuel since i dont really have anyone to show me and this is the third camaro ive worked on. first was a 84 camaro v6, then a 92 camaro 305 tbi, and now i have a 92 Camaro RS with a 350 TPI engine... it was originally a V6 though. they said it came from a corvette, after i ID'd the engine it was from 87-93 chevy camaros or trucks and judging by the wire colors on the harness... its from a 90-92 vehicle(info from haynes camaro book). the car was sitting up for a yr to 2 yrs from what the last owner told me. i started by buying the car, towing it over, see what would happen after i would try to crank it. i pulled a spark plug and i wasnt getting spark, after i grounded out a wire that was loose and replaced dstributor, i started getting spark. i also replace the spark plugs and wires. after attempting to turn it over again nothing would happen, so i rented a fuel pressure kit and tested the pressure. i hooked it up and turned the key and it wasnt gettin any pressure at all. so i tried to hear for the fuel pump and didnt hear anything, checked wires and fuses and they were good, so i drained out the gas and replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. After that i started to hear the fuel pump going and i was getting fuel. now it wont turn over, i thought since it hasnt been cranked in a long time i was going to have to keep trying for awhile. well now after all the attempts from the beginning to now, my starter went out. so after i replace that, i gotta figure out why it wont start. anyone have any ideas?

o and they bypassed the AIR system with a block off plate and no wires running from exhaust and the 2 connectors that would hook up to the sensors for the AIR system are just hangin near the valve covers. i also have 2 wires next to distributor that i cant ID. distributor and coil already have all the right wires, so i have no idea what they go to. anyone please HELP!! :P

Re: starting issues

The wires by the dist might be for the EGR vacuum solenoid, which is right under the ignition coil on TPI engines.

If you have good fuel pressure and it is cranking, then the ECM might not be pulsing the injectors. A bad ignition control module or ECM can cause this.

Re: starting issues

Since your car is a 92 you have VATS. They cut off spark and injector pulse, so the next thing you should pick up is a noid test light kit. Otherwise you have two options if VATS is your problem: 1 Bypass using the resistor method or 2 Send out your prom and have VATS disabled.
