in need of serious help

So today my dad went to start my car, and it sounded like it was majorly cammed, the whole car was shaking, the engine rocking back and forth more than any should, and it wouldn't stay running. im really at a loss the check engine light never came on despite knowing that something was definitely wrong. i have the factory quadrajet, and that probably need to be scrapped or rebuilt. but what would cause this sever chugging. i put it into gear and drive to drive and it just chugged out. im thinking alot has to do with the carb because i had a few nice puffs when the rpms got up, but with the computer not recognizing that something is wrong, could lead to the carb dumping fuel and possible the whole spark/chugging thing. Does anyone have an idea of what is wrong, im really at a loss right here and am i need of help

See if the choke is not opening. The computer is not capable of adjusting the carb too far. A 1985 computer will hardly have the ability to set codes for much. All it really does is play with mixture, timing advance and torque converter lockup.

Re: in need of serious help

i know that the choke doesnt open if you just try to start it. i have to tap the gas twice to reset it if its sat for awhile and once if it has run within a few hours and not at all if its been less than 10 minutes. but i possibly could have stuck shut somehow. i just dont understand because it sounds almost like piston slap and i doesnt want to rev by itself over 500, and after awhile i could sit inside the car and the engine would shake like hell
