I have a 1984 Trans Am with a dead 305, a good 350 from a 1982 Corvette, and an almost new set of GM Vortec Heads from an unknown year 305. There are no rockers on the Vortec Heads and I would like to put those heads on the 350, and put thatmotor in the Trans Am. I've read that choice of rockers is critical when swapping on Vortec Heads. I don't want to build a screamer, just a nice street car. Can I use the stock GM rockers from either the dead '84 305, or the ;82 Corvette 350, on the Vortec Heads when I bolt them onto the 350. (I have the correct intake manifold.)

uh what casting number are those "vortec" heads? If the casting numbers dont end in 906 or 062 then they arent the good vortec heads. The 305 "vortec" heads are not the same.

vortec heads require self aligning rocker arms.

 

Vortec heads have a unique intake mating surface/pattern, so you would have to get a Vortec-specific intake manifold too.

With your car being a '84, I'm assuming Q-jet carb'd, so the intake is easy for you to get, but adds another thing to buy.

Do they have valve covers already? You'll need new valve covers too, if not.
