Previous owner went carb and im lost.

Ok from what ive read this isnt that hard to do, but requires mods.
My car has run great untill the recent months. All of a sudden it started rough starting, i chalked it up to the cold.
One day as im driving the car dies as i pickup speed to about 25-30mph.
So i pull to the side, and inspect. I disconnected the fuel line from the carb and turned the key, and no fuel was comming out, NOTHING.
So im pretty sure its the fuel pump.

Now my main concern.
Since its carbed now, does that mean i can bypass the old pump and just install a line pump? theyre cheaper, and i assume a hell of alot easier to install.

Re: Previous owner went carb and im lost.

You cannot pull fuel through a dead in-tank pump - you'll never get enough, and you'll burn up any external pump trying to draw thru the old non-working pump.

BUT - before you go hacking into the car to change fuel pump - find out how the previous owner wired up the fuel pump to run. Maybe there's just a loose connection. That would be alot easier than a fuel pump install (especially if that's NOT the problem).

Check the fuse pass side between battery and fender - maybe it's blown.

If it is a bad pump, you'll have to drop the tank, or cut the access door and replace. At that point you could replace with a pump, or a carb pickup and use an external pump (either electrical or mechanical). But you can't draw fuel through the dead in-tank pump.

Figure out that wiring first - would save alot of trouble if it's a simple wiring issue.

Im almost positive its a bad pump, have you cut a trap door in your car?
It'd be really baddass to see some pictures of peoples trapdoors.

Search "fuel access" and see what you get - there's several threads here with pics.

I didn't cut through mine - didn't want to hack it so I dropped the tank. If I was a welder, had welding/sheet metal tools, skills, etc I might have tried - but for me dropping the tank was the clear answer.
