Engine acting odd lately
Alright this is what is happening. Up until about three weeks ago my car would idle at 1000 rpm when you first started it and then when you put it in gear it would drop to 750. Then as it warmed up it would drop down to to 500 at stop lights which was fine.
Lately I've been starting it and now it idles at 750 rpm. Then when you put it in gear it drops to 500 rpm. When I back out of my driveway and then stop to put it in drive the engine almost dies. The tact drops almost to 0 rpm and then the motor brings itself back up to 500 rpm. Then once you get it into gear it does it again. Then for about the next 4-5 stop signs/red lights it does it also. It drives fine once it gets going but this is just odd. However, sometimes it decides it wants to starts at 1000 rpm and then it works fine though.
A few weeks ago when I was backing out of my garage when it started at 750 rpm I hit the gas pretty hard and it just died on me. Started right back up again but it has never died on me before.
Now my fuel injectors have 157k miles on them and they are very mucked up. I'm hopefully getting new ones soon to improve gas mileage. Could the injectors be the problem here?

I believe that your problem would/should be cured by the installation of new fuel injectors, and at the least it won't hurt at this stage of the game!!

P.S. Have you checked/reset your IAC, and TPS???

I believe they are the
Idle Air Control
Throttle position sensor
Could be just that simple.
Mountains of info on it on TGO.
Good luck.

Technically, there is no "resetting" the IAC position. It is not an absolute positioning device like a servo or encoder. The ECM learns the position by steps versus idle RPM, and only adjusts for the target idle with A or B phase pulses. The only thing necessary is to make sure the pintle is retracted sufficiently to prevent damage upon installation.
Remove the IAC, disassemble it, clean it, lubricate it, clean the air passages, and re-install it in the TB. It's just about that easy.

I guess my use of the word "reset" was in error, as I meant basically what you said in ref to the IAC!! Also, checking the TPS idle voltage, and for a "clean sweep" with no voltage spikes!!

Alright, first thing I'll do is get the new injectors on and see if it fixes it. If not then I'll move to IAC and then to TPS.
However, all of the threads I've found for IAC talk about TBI intake. Is there a tutorial or step by step somewhere for a TPI car?
