Coolant Temp sender
Okay so I learned that the coolant temp sending goes on the drivers side head and the green wire connects to that. Correct?
Then the level sensor is in my radiator, of course. But my question is whenever I get a relay- where does it go???
If the temp sender to the dash in on drivers side head then why is there a temp sensor on my old water neck as well? Except the one on the water neck has 2 wires. The one on the head is 1 wire.
I boiled the one on the water neck connected and it didn't read anything so if I'm wrong on any of this do tell me.
Please explain- haha

Re: Coolant Temp sender
Well, you're right about the temp sender being on the drivers side head. It's been that way since the early 70's (if not earlier).
There is a radiator fan switch on the passenger side head, between cylinders 6 and 8. This switch tells the rad fan to turn on when the coolant temp exceeds a certain level.
I don't know anything about a level sensor being in the radiator.
Now, to address your question, what do you mean by whenever you "get" a relay?

Already had a coolant problem myself and don't plan on doing that again haha, most of that was due to my stupid heater core. Gotta check that out

Re: Coolant Temp sender
The sensor with one wire is the sending unit for the gauge in the dash.
The sensor with two wires is normally for the ECM. It's the Coolant Temp Sensor. They are usually below the thermostat though. I'd have to see the whole thing to guess what yours does. Some waterneck sensors are switches for routing vacuum signals.

Re: Coolant Temp sender
so our ESP is not working too well at the moment.
Do you still have a computer in your car?
If you were to tell us what type of engine you have ; TPI / TBI / carb ?????
it might make things easier working with your vague information
Some cars have a low coolant sensor

Re: Coolant Temp sender
Well I bought a new temp sender put it in the head and it doesn't work. It evetually went crazy then stuck at 260, so something is wrong.
Its carbed. So I dunno what to do now. I'm pretty sure she has over heated 3 times now and its a brand new crate. The pump is new, the thermostat is fairly new and the temp sender again- doesn't work.

Re: Coolant Temp sender
When I ground it out by touching the engine with the green wire it flicks the gauge all the way up. So what do you think the problem is?
also this needs to be moved to cooling, my bad

Re: Coolant Temp sender
I would check for a short on the wire, and also for loose connection where the harness connects to your gauge cluster.
