Had an idea
Probably not a good one either. I have a 350 out of an 83 chevy truck. Eventually I'm going to use it to replace my L03 in my 88 Firebird. Stock, that thing makes less hp than my TBI engine. Any who, I also have a 305 that I cant seem to sell. It has 601 heads and a Crane cam chs278h10. I think the specs are 222 lift @.050 advertised duration is 278 and the lift is .478, and also has a double roller timing chain. I remember that engine was pretty quick for a 305. So I was curious how much power would that 350 make with that cam and those heads. And would the compression be too high. Its just an idea. If did it I would go carb. And no its not a daily driver.
Thanks

Re: Had an idea
If I recall the 83 truck motor should have a large dish piston if stock, you would get a lot of low end torque using the 305 heads but they dont breath too well for high end power. That cam would also help prevent detenation by bleeding off cylinder pressure at low engine speeds id start on 91 and if no problems step down to mid grade and see how it works. All in all not a bad set up if your on a budget had a friend that did something close to this on a 327 in a 55 chevy truck and it worked nice.

Re: Had an idea
601 heads are about as good a stock head as you'll find until the Vortec era. They're good for bringing up the compression on a stock truck short block. A used flat tappet cam is scrap metal, not worth trying to put into a different engine.
