Hi Guys,
I was driving my 87 Iroc 305 yesterday and had to pull over because oil was just running out of the bottom of the car. Looked like it was coming from next to or above the oil filter. I noticed some oil on the driveway over the last couple of weeks but nothing bad. I also notice some oil dripping from a small hose (about 4 inches long) that goes into the adapter next to the filter. I don't have the car here so I can't give it a good look.
Any ideas? I had to just get a tow to the mechanic.
Thanks

Oil pressure sending unit...

Part costs $15-20, should take no more than a few minutes to change it out. Pretty minor repair really, in spite of how scary it looks.

Thanks for the reply. Do you know what that little hose is? If I had the car here I could take a pic of it but Im going on memory.

No hose there; just wires. Maybe with split-loom plastic covering on them, which might look a little like a hose once it gets a couple hundred thousand miles of leaking OPSU funk on it.

Someone might have installed a mechanical oil-pressure gauge in your car at some point, and most of them use a tiny plastic tube to transfer pressure from the block to the gauge. If you're not using a mechanical gauge, then simply remove the tube and adapter and plug the hole with a pipe-plug and sealer.

If you are using a mechanical gauge, then you might consider replacing the plastic tubing with copper tubing.
