fuel tank sending unit plug won't come out?

I am swapping out my fuel pump, and cannot figure out how to get the sending unit electrical connector off so I can pull it out all the way, there is the white horseshoe shaped one and a little black ground wire attached at the top. Or do they even disconnect, as in just pull it and set it there on its side still attached or what?

Look some similar connector images in articles sold in ebay. It can help with any idea.

I found out that it unplugged at the body instead of at the sending unit, cut the wires instead, would rather have spliced wires than a bigger hole in the body...
