Running 3.4 injectors in 3.1 engine without mods. It's possible?. Please help
Hi,
I must replace injectors in my wife's 1997 GM v6 3100 FWD OBD II.
I can buy 6 cheap new ACDelco 3.4 injectors for the same car with 3.4 engine (3.1 are not available).
But I can't reprogram its OBD II ECM.
My questions are:
1.- They will fit in 3.1 engine holes/connectors?
2.- It will be the air/fuel mixture automatically compensated by ECM?
3.- How about the emissions test (my big dude)? (HC, CO, NOX)?.
Any help will be apreciated, because today I'm in low $$$$$
Thanks in advance,
Denis V.

1) Nearly all GM engines used the same EV1 injector connectors. Most likely the will fit fine and run. You will have issues running excessively rich because the ECM isnt tuned for the larger injectors. This will throw your emissions testing for a loop and risk washing the cyl walls down with prolonged use
2) To a very small degree, but most likely not enough
3) Guaranteed fail with excessive rich condition
Try a junkyard or ebay for a cheap solution. Several companies and sponsors offer injector services which would be more cost effective than buying new
This is not 3rd gen related and needs to be locked, sorry
