You have to drive it around so that the engine can experience load and driving habits. That's how the ECM learns the readings and data from the sensors.

sit down. In order to verify if there is a bad sensor or ECM, a test drive must be done. The other member said plug, turn on and basically let it idle.

he has a drivability problem too though. after the new ecm install. You will know a bad prom if you insert key and turn on ignition(don't start car). The SES light should be solid, blink once(very fast) and then turn solid. That would verify a good prom.

Not too sure about the behavior of the ses light. But a TC of 51 is a bad PROM or ECM.

I left the car at the shop & it will remain their the entire weekend. they are going to replace. The elec. said the ECM was not responding to the scanner.....

Is there a way for me to test that badboy before I take it back to get my money for the core. oh and btw he took the prom off to put it on the new one.

Re: 1986 Camaro TPI/Mechanic cannot figure it out...

Thats the process. the Reman ECM has no MemCal in it. Usually the Reman comes with no MemCal cover too. There is no way to test the core ECM, unless you are or know an electrition. Here is the catch on the Reman ECM, once the sticker (Tamper Proof Sticker) that covers the port for the MemCal (PROM chip), then that is it. You cant get your money back, UNLESS you have the sticker and it is in good condition. Just carefully put the sticker back. The salesperson will inspect the sticker to see if the ECM has been used. Any electronics device will not be accepted unless it is defective when it was sold to you. All you gotta say if you decide to return it is that there is no Fuel Injector pulse. In other words, the fuel injectors are not firing because the drivers are not sending current to initiate the injector. If they say that they can give you another one, say no because you you got an extra one and it works better. Good luck man. I learned this when I bought a Reman ECM from Autozone.

It was the ECM & prom all along. They replaced it and adjusted my TPS sensor & now the car runs like a champ.
