my new damper doesnt wanna go all the way on
ok i have a 1973 sbc 400 and im trying to put my new harmonic dampner on and it wont go on all the way. it needs to be about another rib and a half over so the belt lines up right. whats wrong. i have baked the thing to 450 degrees for an hour and used refrigernat to cool the crank to make it colder. and it still wont go on.. and it is the right balancer and the crank is clean and the keys arent smashed here is the link of the balancer http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-C4266/ helllp

put the bolt in the end of it and run it down with an impact grease crank first and put a dab of rtv in keyway at the back it will leak small amount of oil in time without the rtv

no thats no it and plus the threads on the crank look to weak to impact the thing on. and thats not the right part. sbc 400's are externally balanced so thaqt wont work at all and its not sfi approved.. come on i need the motor in tonight need some educated answers here!!!!

Yeah I think he missed the "its a 400" part. And yes trying to crank it on with the usual bolt is a bad idea and would probably strip your threads since it wouldnt even have half the threads engaged.
What method are you using to install it? Heat and hammer? Have you tried the actual installation tool (rent one from any chain auto parts store)? Basically it seats a bolt all the way into the crank (engages every thread and doesnt turn so unlikely to strip) then theres a huge nut you turn with a giant wrench.
