Car runs for a few miles then stalls, and continues to stall until a half an hour.

It has been running fine and then it suddenly stalled one night. After I pulled over, the engine would start for a few seconds and then stall again. It did this for about 10 minutes straight. Then I got it towed back to my house and the next day it started fine and ran a few miles and did the same thing. The next day it did the same thing, I have checked some things in the engine and everything appears to be fine I read a lot of similar stories online and they all said it may be something with ECM/PCM/CPS and some said it may have to do with the fuel system, I doubted it would be the fuel filter or pump since it would run fine for 3-6miles when cold and stall when warm. I don't know exactly why it would be any of these problems and would like some helpful information to assist me with fixing it. Thanks - Charles

Had this happen in an 87 IROC once. In that case it turned out that the bottom of the gas tank was filled with crap and would clog the sock after a bit of driving due to the pump suction. Pulled the tank for a good cleaning, replaced pump, sock, and filter: good to this day.

Thanks for the reply, my dad suggested that may be the problem, but I would still like to know about the other likely causes since I don't know much about them. Also my stepfather said he has had problems with clogged filters in the past, but never was able to drive as long as I have(3-6 miles), he said whenever he had such problems he was hardly able to drive a few hundred feet.

When the IROC started having the problem it would drive for about 50 miles, then stall. Let it sit for 10 minutes and it would go another 50. It was a doozy to diagnose.

Yea haha it would be nice if mine would run 50 miles, I still think it may be the PCM/ECM/CPS because it deliver the fuel fine while it is running acceleration is normal and it starts normally when it does.
