350 combo help.

Hey guys, first timer here so take it easy on me. Well here It goes... I have an 88 iroc with a cracked block... So I bought a 350 from a 79 z28 with 68 thousand miles on it....bone stock. Here's what I have to put on it.
Edelebrock performer intake
650 q-jet
291 double humps..stock but redone by machine shop
Comp Cam-284 advertised duration 481 lift
Headers-not sure what kind
Has dual exhaust (not true) 3 inch
Posi-4:11 I was told. 700r4 trans auto.
So is this a good combo? Anything I should do different besides the obvious thing everyone is gonna say...(change the heads)lol.
Thanks guys I appreciate it.

Re: 350 combo help.

1) did you make sure by casting numbers that it is in fact a 350? can't tell physcially from outside difference between 305 and 350.

2) do the heads have accesory bolt holes for the brackets? otherwise, you're gonna have to have them tapped in, or use old-school bracket system.

3) if it's a 1988 IROC - isn't it a TPI system? Why not keep the TPI system?

4) rear gears are not going to be 4.11's unless they've been changed out by someone - no 4.11's offered from factory.

Re: 350 combo help.

Thanks for your reply. Yes it's a 350. I don't know anything about a tpi system? It had a carbureted 350 in it already. I guess that's why...What gears would it have if stock?

Re: 350 combo help.

Look at the RPO sticker in the center console, and post up what G codes are listed there, should be something like GU5, or GU4...that will translate to what gears were in there stock.

Re: 350 combo help.

If its a stock bottom end it is a very low compression motor and wont make cyl pressure to run a cam. Cant remember what the CC on the stock heads were, what are your 291s?

Re: 350 combo help.

67cc 10 to 1 maybe 10.5 to 1.... The heads will make up for it... Right?

Re: 350 combo help.

I found a sticker in the center council...I don't know if it's the one your talking about? It says service parts list or something....the only code I seen with a g in it was GU2.

He's got 63cc heads, when I did my calculations with the same block (3970010) and using 64cc heads I came out around 9.5:1.

It would be a good daily driver, spin the tires when you want, but it's not going to be a 10 second car.

With a 350, 1 horsepower for every cube is really good.. The weight of your car, transmission, rear end, I'm sure it's possible, maybe high 13's depending on your driving..

A buddy of mine has a dyno tested 450 horsepower, 3.75 gears, turbo 350 trans, in a 2900lb car and he's just into 12.7 on a cool day.

For your horsepower, think realistic when picking your parts, email Lunati on your specs to pick a cam, tell them what you're looking for, then talk to an engine builder and see if that cam will work with your heads, some heads are only good for .480 lift, and trust me, when you're close (I went with .472 on my exhaust) it gets expensive..

Re: 350 combo help.

Well it looks like I'm gonna have a pretty good set up. I won't be winning any races on PINKS....but she's gonna have some pony's! Thanks guy's!
Oh yea.... Someone told me I can use a torque converter from a
350 turbo tranny on my 700r4 to replace the stock one???
Is that true???
