Which wires are to the fuel pump?

I have been searching everywhere on here for the answer to my question, but no success. If anyony can refer the post or let me know I would appreciate it alot. I have a 1989 Formula with a 305 TBI. I replaced the fuel pump back in October of 2010, the fuel pump worked but the project got put on hold for other reasons. Recently I went to continue the project but now the fuel pump will not turn on. There are three wires to the unit, Black, Purple, and Grey. Which of the two are to the fuel pump so I can just apply power directly to it to see if there is any signs of life.

if youre talking about the wires that go behind the seat through the body and to the pump, the grey wire is the one you need to put power to.

Re: Which wires are to the fuel pump?

Thanks y'all for responding to my post. Yep, the fuel pump will not fire up with direct power. The Ohms show that there is a complete circuit but I can't even get a spark when I touch the wires. I will just have to install an external electric pump on the return line (I know it feeds all the way down to the bottom of the tank) and see if that will be enough. Thanks again.

Just dropp the tank and replace the intank pump. Putting an inline pump on the return line is a horrible idea. It doesnt take much to drop the tank.
