327 question
I was thinking if I could put any sets of heads on 327ci engine.
Like if I was to put heads from a 90 Tpi car, would they fit without a problem and us the Tpi with it?

Re: 327 question
Sure they will fit. You can even leave the 327 heads on and bolt the TPI up to that... problem might come with the accessories brackets if you don't change to the other heads.

Re: 327 question
You can go either route. But the 2 center bolts on the drivers, and pass side of the 87 and later tpi intakes are angled differently then your 327 heads allow.
I have never done the mod, so I dont know if people use an angled spacer, or drill the holes out. Either way, its not much of a big deal.
If you have an 86' or older TPI intake, it will bolt right up to your old 327 heads no problem.
As far as bolt holes on the forward ends of your heads, zraffz is right on. You may not have what you need there. Im sure there is a work around for that. I just dont know it.
A competent machine shop could probably map newer heads, and drill your older heads according to the newer ones. ?

Re: 327 question
Makes better sense now.
My goal is to get a 327 block and use l98 heads (so i can use my pully system from my 91 bird without drilling any holes) and use a Sd tpi set up.
SO any set of sbc 350 heads "such as the 89 l98 heads" will bolt on without a problem?

Re: 327 question
This topic begs a question for my curiosity ...
I know that a 305 needs a 305 knock sensor, and a 350 needs a 350 knock sensor ... what do you use in a case like this? Or when someone puts a TPI on a 400 or something?

Re: 327 question
IM assuming you would have to tune a chip to accept the 327.
i got another question with the 327 and 350 heads: can i use a 350 cam in a 327 but would i have to get push rods made or would 5.7 push rods work fine?

Re: 327 question
Should be pushrods available already without having anything "made"
You can actually make a 327 into a 350 if it's the right 327 block. As I understand it, there were large journal and small journal 327's (way more small journal ones). Large journal 327 had journal sizes same as the 350, so a 350 crank, pistons, rods, etc. could be installed and in the end you have a 350 anyway. I'm guessing these were a year or two before the introduction of the 350, and the blocks were getting machined differently to 'be ready' - I don't know for sure.

Re: 327 question
Knock sensor goes with bore diameter. It's basically a little microphone, tuned to the characteristic frequency determined by bore.
So a 305 gets one kind, 302/327/350/383 get another, and sadly there's not one that's really right for the 400, that I know of.
A 327 can be thought of as basically just a 350 that's been weakened by having a shorter stroke. Especially a LJ one. Everything is the same except the crank and the wrist pin height in the piston. So think of yours as being just like a 350, externally; anything that bolts to a 350, bolts to your short block exactly the same.

Of course.
Or, 262.5, 265, 267, 283, 302, 305, 307, or 400 ones. All the same. (flat-tappet only)
