Fuel line confusion

So heres the situation.. Im in the process of doing some additional mods to the engine so i was taking everything apart when i noticed something. i have a 71 chevy 350 block with a mechanical fuel pump and theres no return line.. i got under the car and found the return line capped off via southerner ingenuity. Should i not have a mechanical pump with a return line outlet?? i know they make both styles for the block. advantage? disadvantage? doesnt matter?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Re: Fuel line confusion

The pump with the return is probably best; keeps the fuel in the line circulating at all times, and therefore cool.

The stock pump for these cars (with return) will support around 400 HP, maybe more. Definitely more if a lightweight rod is used. Most of us should have no problem with its capacity.
