Intake Manifold Choices

This is one topic that I can never seem to find much info on. When do you want a Performer over a Performer RPM? Whats better a Weiand Street or Edelbrock Performer? You see where I'm gong with this. Can someone go through how to select the right intake?

Re: Intake Manifold Choices

I'm assuming we're talking about carbing.

I'm certainly no expert, but so many folks use the Performer RPM or the Air Gap RPM, it's kind of a given. The "RPM" models are higher power if you will than the regular Performers - technically I don't know why, maybe Edelbrock explains it o their site.

Nothing wrong with Weiand at all. But not the status quo, so I'd find one that had similar specs as the Performer RPM or Air Gap RPM.

The Air Gap allows air flow under the runners, which helps keep the fuel cooler, thus denser, thus better performing (in theory anyway).

You are kind of on the right track. Most of what you said I know or have observed myself. I'm looking for some more technical info. I'd guess that intakes are kind of like heads where you have runner size and flow rates to consider in the proper match to the engine you are building.

Re: Intake Manifold Choices

From what I know is that every intake has a rpm range. The rpm range of the performer rpm might be higher then the performer. The performer might be 1,200-3,000rpm, and the rpm might be 1,800-4,000rpm range. Im just making an example. If I am wrong please correct me.
