New Gears and Limited Slip
New Gears and Limited Slip
I am buying new gears and a limited slip differential. In Jegs, the differential I need is #109-542058. It is from Auburn Gear and it is a 26 spline diff. The ring and pinion gears I need to get are #836-49-0001-1 they are 3.08 ratio and is a 27 spline pinion. The question I have is will the 26 spline diff and 27 spline pinion work? I am guessing not. This is the only limited slip in Jegs that will fit my 87 camaro and there are no gears anywhere in Jegs that have a 26 spline pinion to match the diff. How might I get it to work?

Re: New Gears and Limited Slip
27 splines is on the pinion, where the yoke goes.
26 or 28 is on the side gears, where the axles go.
Those are not related in ANY WAY WHATSOEVER.
AFAIK all rear ends of this model have 27 spines on the pinion.
I would advise STRONGLY against the Auburn. It is the trash and the dung. Get Eaton instead. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ETN-19599-010/
I would also advise against buying a 26-spline carrier. Instead, get a 28, and these axles right here. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SAG-EV10-4/ May seem like a chunk right now, but if you don't, then some day when you least expect it, you'll wish you had.
Likewise, 3.08 gears would be a mistake. They are 2 series, leaving you with NO upgrade path. Very very very bad idea. Get 3.23 instead http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MGR-G875323/, if you're going to buy ANY gears at all. BIG mistake to buy a bunch of low-perf gas-mileage gears that you can't even upgrade FROM when you realize what a waste of money that was.

Re: New Gears and Limited Slip
I put a 350 turbo tranny in which is why I need higher gears. There is no overdrive. Do you know what spline the factory axles are in my year? It was originally a v6.

IIRC they upgraded to 28 spline axles in mid-late 89.
I bought the same eaton posi off ebay, brand new, for 380 dollars a few yrs ago. Upgraded to 28 spline superior axles as well.
