Running Sluggish

Greetings,

I have an 85 Z28 TPI 5.0 with a 700R4. Just recently the car acts like it has an anchor tied to it. I have a MSD 6 series system wired in and a Hypertech chip. If I get on the throttle and allow it to downshift, the car makes a lot of "noise" but not a lot of increase in speed. If I get on it from a stop, it shifts fine sometimes, others it will get real high rpms and then shift. The engine just sounds way different. I swapped out blaster coils and replaced the fuel filter. I was going to check fuel pressure, but need to get my hands on one. Im hoping someone has been down this road and can shed some light. I also have no check engine light on. Do I maybe have a bad ecm or prom?

Re: Running Sluggish

Are you sure you have a check engine light? Some people will remove the lights before they sell the car so that you dont know anythings wrong with it. That's how mine is, still got to run codes.

Re: Running Sluggish

My check engine light is there, comes on when the key is on. It seems to work as advertised. I had a code a while back, something to do with coolant sensor, so Im pretty sure the system works. I put classic vehicle plates on the car so I don't really drive it that much.

Re: Running Sluggish

Maybe transmission - low/bad fluid, or badly adjusted/broken tv cable?

Re: Running Sluggish

I have reset the TV cable, but even parked when I hit the throttle, it doesn't sound right. Like its under powered. I checked the throttle position sensor and its at .55 at idle and 4.30 at WOT, so I would assume this is working correctly. Would plugs cause this condition, maybe injectors. I don't think its trans related. Does anyone have any quick checks I can make to narrow down this problem. The car idles smooth, starts at a crack of the key.
