engine backfires then dies
hi i own a 87 trans am it has ether a 60s or 70s 5.7 350 4bolt main in it. i have no info on the engine since i bought it last year and the engine was already in it. The oil dip stick is on the right which im pretty sure the 3rd gens are on the left but anyways i drove it for a month just got it running good, nice and peppy then one day i was driveing home from work and it started boging followed by the biggest backfire i have ever heard coasted to the side of the road and it wouldnt start. i new the engine needed some maintance so i took it to a race shop in newmarket a buddy recomended to me. 1000$ later i got a high flow fuel pump, taylor wires and looms, new plugs and got my distributer rebuilt. went and pick it up ran better then ever. smelt like it was running alittle rich but i left it. a month later driveing home car dies so it ended up being the coil this time. replaced it ran fine a week later driveing to my grandmas for dinner just got of the highway car bogs backfires then dies look at it and find out that i got no spark again so i check my coil its fine plugs are still good and my distrubutor was just rebuilt so i park it for the winter and now its time to bring it back to life i think its the distributor but what i dont understand is what would cause it to keep burning out my coil and distributor. i was told theres a regulator on the back of my alt. that regs the oms to my distributor also i forgot to mention this before but the race shop ran my electric fan off my dizzy so i dont no if that has anything to do with it but if anybody has any idea whats going on please help and sorry for all the mispells
