Mallory Distributor has too much play in the shaft

So long story short I yanked my pro billet due to timing jumping all over the board. turns out dad forgot to put the rubber plugs back in the cap so apparently the spark was jumping to the screws but anyway I needed the gear for my backup dizzy and when I went to put a new gear back on I realized the shaft had way way too much play up and down (like 1/8") so just wondering how much play should it have, and did I lose something that was supposed to take up the gap between the gear and the shaft? anybody got a pic? Mallory says they can't tell us nothing.....We have to send it in......BS If thats the only help they'll give me I'll fix it myself or switch back to my gutted HEI

You can buy shims for it, not a big deal. I think I ended up setting mine to something like .020 inches... which is more than was recommended by a small amount online somewhere.

But the shims are cheap. Just do some research and figure out what teh recommended clearance is.

Ya i ordered the shim kit one .050 one .020 and two .010 I figured that would be the route I'd take I did read somewhere that it needs to be about .012 clearance but I also read somewhere between .022 and .033
