Oil pan change while in the car
I finally got my stock oil pan off of my 400sbc
I am trying to put a moroso 20170 pan back in
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MOR-20170/
I am having trouble getting the new one back in. The front of the pan is hitting the front main bearing cap. The back of the pan is hitting the flexplate.

I have removed the starter, dizzy cap, headers, y-pipe and trans crossmember nut.
Anyone put this oil pan in there f-body?
Am I left with pulling the engine?

Re: Oil pan change while in the car
I've only ever done an in-car oilpan removal on a thirdgen once, on a 305 in a '91 RS. I wound up unbolting the engine mounts and lifting the engine as far as it'd go. It looks like that new pan is slightly deeper in the middle area than the original, and you just need a little bit more clearance.

I took the stock pan off by just lifting the engine with a floorjack.
I need another inch and then I could get the moroso pan in.

Is that pan deeper than stock? If so, you need to install the matching oil pick up tube. Moroso most likely has an oil pump and pick up screen which they intend to be used with that pan. You might want to call them and ask to be sure. You may need to drop the transmission to gain the added clearance needed.

Re: Oil pan change while in the car
The only time I did it on a motor in the car, I pulled the engine. IIRC, it helps clearing the crank throws if the timing pointer is in the 6:00 position- I could be wrong on that.
It sounds like you're bumping into the K member, though. Assuming you already removed at least the dizzy cap and disco'd the trans mount and motor mounts, get a cherry picker in there and jack it up some more. Should slide right in then.

Update:
I had to take the engine and the trans out of the car. It was still in the engine bay, just lifted high. Finally it is on!
