'89 Firebird (350) - codes 33 and 54
Hello all!
Just picked up a low-mile '89 Formula last weekend. The owner had parked it about eight years ago due to what he called an injection problem. Turned out it was a VATS problem, and after much probing and a nickel's worth of resistors I got it to start.
From the get-go it was having a tough time starting, idled very rough, and would die if I so much as tapped the gas. I figured fuel pump, but previous owner claimed to have had the fuel pressure tested and found it to be OK. Just to be safe, I changed the fuel filter and gave my vacuum lines and underhood wiring a double-check. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
So this afternoon I finally got a chance to read the DTCs. I got codes 33 (MAP sensor issue) and 54 (fuel pump low voltage).
My first instinct would be to go after the two issues individually, but since I'm new to these cars I figured I'd present it to the group first. I know that sometimes two or more seemingly unrelated DTCs can point to a common problem when seen together... perhaps that's the case here?
Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!
