turn key 1 clic=nothing
90firebird.starts when it wants to.More and more it dont want to.I turn the key and it gose clic 1 time, and nothing.cleaning bat. cables dosn't help.Tryed putting another starter I got on to see if that would work, nothing but 1 clic. When it dose turn over it turns over fast and starts up strong.Could it be that decode module thingy? Or a nuetral safty switch?Ignition switch?Sence it dosn't even turn over the dizzy wouldn't even be in the picture would it?

Re: turn key 1 clic=nothing
Dose this usually happen after some driving? I had a similar issue. The car would always start strong the first time but would occasionally strand me. It ended up being my starter solenoid. It had a crack and was getting heat soaked. I tried everything prior to replacing the starter but that was the trick.

Re: turn key 1 clic=nothing
I'd look elsewhere besides the starter.
Do a test - get a 10ga wire, touch one end to the battery pos terminal, other end to the starter where the PURPLE wire connects - if the starter turns everytime you do this, then it's not the starter/solenoid.
It sounds to me like you have a problem with the starter circuit, somewhere between the ignition switch (not the key cylinder), and the starter itself. I have the same issue - been fighting it for over a year. I found my problem, you need to find yours. My problem is the neutral safety switch - the switch is good, and the connector is good - they just aren't good together (like ice cream on pizza - alone great, together yuck). My connector doesn't stay seated well into my switch - my solution was to use a few zip-ties to make sure it doesn't wiggle out like it has been over the last year - 3 weeks later all is still good, mine starts everytime.
I'd start at the NSS, and work my way back to the ignition switch, checking for connectors or wires that could be bad. Here's a tech article on troubleshooting the starter circuit: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=38
Here's the rest of the tech articles - some great stuff here: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/index.php?pid=2
Good luck!

Re: turn key 1 clic=nothing
I'm going to do that!I'm sort of thinking it may end up being the neautral safty switch. It was doing this before the 3.4 swap, and all the wires that were taken off and put back on,the car started fine the first day. It's been doing this for about 6 months, just getting worse each week. Thanks for the links and your advice

Re: turn key 1 clic=nothing
I have had this problem for two years now. I just ended up wiring up a 12v switch from an auto parts store directly to the starter. A push button switch to be exact. Starts everytime now. LOL

Add me to the push button start group... I had all kinds of weird starter issues for a while. Going to a push button fixed it.
