L31 with a Stealth RAM
All the info I have found says a stock L31 is rated at 255hp and 330tQ
If I put a Stealth Ram and some shorty headers on there would the hp and tq numbers get better or worse? I ask because I'm looking to buy a stock replacment for a L98 thats less than 3K. I was thinking of the L31 but I don't know if it would actually performe worse than a L98 in stock form. I know It has the vortec heads thats why I was going to use the stealth ram. Just want to know if it would be a nice stock replacement or not and if I would actually gain a little power?

You should gain a little power. 255 is more than 245 last I checked. Stealth Ram and headers should only add to the 255.

HA HA yeah it is more. Well I guess this will make a nice replacment. I wanted to build my own, but I don't have a place to do it anymore and my wallet keeps getting smaller and smaller every pay day. I work at a Honda dealer doing accessories pdi's and some tech work. But no parts coming out of japan=no new cars lol And gas prices are making people choose food or fix their car. food always wins

Re: L31 with a Stealth RAM
The HSR is available in a version that fits the L31 heads. That's the better way to go.
You'll want to up the cam in it to take advantage of the HSR's characteristics. You don't have to go crazy on it, since that will only multiply the tuning headache, but the stock Vortec cam is pretty weenie and will seriously hold it back.
I'd expect something up into the mid 300s of HP without any difficulty at all.

Ok, Thanks for the info. Is there a cam you would recomend? And would the stock heads still be ok?

Swapping the cam would require valve springs at a minimum and possibly more head work for clearance but worth it.
